Sketch
BORN in an erudite family in the city of the fêted poet Sir Muhammad Iqbal, Sialkot —almost adjacent to the Himalayan State of Jammu n’ Kashmir, Rao graduated from the illustrious Murray College — an academic podium, set off by Scotch Mission almost a century ago with a zest to disseminate edification with lofty goals.

With idiosyncratic love for journalism, he stepped into this arena — first by his selection as the Editor of the College Magazine by the Board of Governors which was trailed by his appointment as Special Correspondent of the premier news agency, Pakistan Press International [PPI].

With a quest for higher education, Rao said good-bye to his ancestral abode n’ voyaged to Lahore—the metropolis of the Punjab province of Pakistan, where he sought the degree of Law—with English jurisprudence as an explicit subject—with distinction.

Due to dazzling adore for journalism, he opted to re-join the news agency as its Chief Reporter instead of going for legal practice—as an Advocate or a Barrister.

Rao is the first newsman who was picked as News Editor when TV came to Pakistan in 1964 under the aegis of the Japanese alluring set-up, the NEC.

After a drawn out alliance—with a span of almost 35 years—he retired from the service of Pakistan TV as its Director of News n’ Current Affairs in June 2000.

Widely-travelled n’ globally-acknowledged as a five-star journalist—with a lot of honours to his credit, Rao, in the post-retirement epoch, has introduced the new concept of Online Media and journalism by initiating a web news portal, 'The World Today', an Urdu Daily 'Daur-e-Jadeed' [TWTNews.Net] and a popular & well-acknowledged, Pakistan's first independent complete daily web newspaper, 'Pakistan Times' [PakistanTimes.net] and The 'Kashmir Tribune' [KashmirTribune.com] under TIMES Group of Publications [www.TIMES.com.pk] with a glamorous feedback from all-over.

Simultaneously he contributes his inputs, on issues of global significance, to national n’ international newspapers as a freelance journalist. He — spontaneously — offers his assessment and surveillance of the global scenario to prime electronic media networks — as n’ when contacted by them via Live telecasts.
